It has never been easier for almost anyone to be a movie maker and have access to a worldwide audience. Here in the Communication Department at Southwestern Adventist University, we are committed to helping students become great storytellers and skilled moviemakers.
In 2016 the Communication Department at SWAU established the Institute for Christian Film, which included an annual 48-hour film festival. High school students from all over come to our campus and work for two days in groups to make short 3 to 5 minute films. The Southwestern 12x12 Mobile Media Film Festival will take place on our campus from March 1-4. We are adding an extra day to the program so the students can participate in a full day of hands-on learning workshops with guest speakers from the film industry.
We have a variety of genres for which to submit a film and several other creative categories for production staff, like editing, storyboarding, and production posters. There will be an online live event where awards will be announced, and winners will have their entries displayed.
In addition to working on the film festival, each evening, the SWAU Student Association will have fun and engaging activities for all the student teams. I can promise you it will be an experience you and your students will not forget.
The following awards are possible, actual awards will depend on the number of entries in each category:
