Experience A Night at the Meyerson, a Southwestern Adventist University tradition since 1993. On February 27, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. under the direction of our accomplished music faculty, hundreds of high school and university students will combine their talents to fill the Meyerson Symphony Center with beautiful and uplifting music, giving glory to God the Almighty!

For 125 years Southwestern Adventist University has been inspiring students to develop their God-given talents to bring honor and glory to their Creator. This year marks the 29th anniversary of celebrating God's gift of music at the Meyerson Symphony Center.


A Night at the Meyerson
Our goal is to promote musical achievement among young musicians and provide scholarships that will enable students to thrive as they engage in music while pursuing their college degrees. This wonderful tradition continues as a result of the many sponsors that support this event; we are extremely thankful for their generosity.
Our Featured Guests

British Composer Philip Stopford will be our guest Commissioned Composer at the 2022 Southwestern Music Festival; and A Night at the Meyerson. Philip Stopford began his musical career when he was 8 years old as a chorister at Westminster Abbey, singing under the direction of Simon Preston and Dr. Martin Neary. He was appointed organ scholar at Truro Cathedral, Keble College, and Canterbury Cathedral before moving to Chester Cathedral to be the assistant organist. When Stopford was 25, he was appointed director of music at Belfast Cathedral. He quickly became a respected choir trainer and composer of church music due to his extensive background in choral music. Stopford recorded the first CD of his choral music with Ecclesium at Keble College. The disc was named Editor’s Choice by Organists’ Review in August of 2006. In September 2015, he was appointed composer in residence at Christ Church, just outside of New York City.

Cellist Jolyon Pegis will be our guest soloist at the 2022 Southwestern Music Festival: A Night at the Meyerson. Pegis attended both Indiana University and the University of Hartford. His principal teachers include Alan Harris, Gary Hoffman, and David Wells. In 1990, he made his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall and since his debut has appeared as a recitalist and chamber musician. He also received the Artist International Awards in New York. He has had the privilege to work with composers such as Gunther Schuller, Lukas Foss, Eric Heckard, and Don Freund. Jolyon Pegis has served on the faculty of the D’Angelo School of Music at Mercyhurst College, the Hartt School of Music, and Southern Methodist University as a dedicated teacher. He was a member of the Arcadia Trio in residence at the Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival and also appeared as a soloist in several symphonies. His more recent performances include the world premiere of the David Amram Double Concerto at the University of Michigan with subsequent performances with the Las Cruces Symphony and the Laredo Philharmonic as well as a performance of Don Quixote with the Chautauqua Symphony. From 1995-2000, Jolyon served as the Principal Cellist for the San Antonio Symphony. He is currently an Associate Principal Cellist with the Dallas Symphony as well as Principal Cello of the Chautauqua Symphony and a member of the contemporary ensemble Voices of Change.

SWAU Presents 29th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser
Southwestern Adventist University’s (SWAU) 29th annual A Night at the Meyerson concert will be hosted on February 27, 2022, at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in downtown Dallas, Texas. The concert is the finale of Southwestern Adventist University’s Music Festival which brings talented student musicians from across the United States together each spring for vigorous music education and performance. The music festival features a mass choir, symphony orchestra, and guest artists.
