James (Jim) Hopps was born in Madison, Tennessee, and graduated from Takoma Academy in Takoma Park, Maryland, and Baylor University Law School in Waco, Texas. His son, Jim, graduated from Southwestern in 1996. His father, Herbert, and mother, Ivanette Woodall, graduated in 1942 and 1939, respectively, from Southwestern Junior College.
As envisioned by its pioneers and endowed by their sacrifice, Southwestern has a history of training godly, committed leaders with a heart for ministry and a calling to change the world. The James K. Hopps Scholarship was created to help continue that heritage.
