Understanding the full cost of a college education is one of the most important steps in financial planning.
Whether you are a first-time student, a transfer, or a graduate student, this page will help you understand what to expect and how to plan for it.
Tuition and fees are only part of the total cost. This page breaks down billed (direct) charges and estimated (indirect) expenses so you can better understand how your financial aid will apply.

What Are Direct vs. Indirect Costs?
Direct or Billed Costs
These are charges that will appear on your student account. They include:
- Tuition

- Room and board (if living on campus)
Indirect or Estimated Costs
These are costs that vary by student and do not appear on your bill, but are still part of your financial planning. They include:
- Books and course materials
- Personal expenses (laundry, toiletries, phone, entertainment)
- Transportation
- Supplies and equipment
- Off-campus housing (if applicable)
Individual Considerations
Some students may have additional expenses that are not included in the standard cost of attendance but can be added for loan eligibility. These may include:
- Health insurance (if not waived)
- Computer and technology needs
- Professional licensure or certification costs
- Study abroad program fees
- Childcare or dependent care
- Disability-related costs
Please speak with a financial aid advisor if you anticipate these expenses. We may be able to increase your aid eligibility or help explore loan options.
