Southwestern Adventist University is proud to welcome Nathan Greene to the annual Festival of the Arts on March 19-22. Greene will be a clinician during the arts portion of the festival, providing instruction and inspiration to participating arts students. Greene will also be a speaker for the Friday evening vespers service in the Keene Church, starting at 7:00pm.
Nathan Greene is a beloved artist known for his depictions of Christ amidst modern day scenes, often including children. Greene’s childhood fascination with his mother’s landscape canvases sparked a lifelong passion for painting. Influenced by artistic legends like Hayden Sundbloom and Norman Rockwell, as well as his mentor Harry Anderson, Greene’s technique reflects a deep respect for the craft. After studying at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, he delved into freelance illustration. He gained recognition for his stirring works featured in publications like Christianity Today, Ranger Rick, and many of the well-known magazines of the Seventh-day Adventist Church such as The Review and Herald and Signs of the Times.
After being commissioned by NASA for his skill, Greene’s career shifted in the early 1990’s with large oil paintings such as Chief of the Medical Staff and Family of God, marking a transition to fine art. His inspirational pieces aim to convey messages of God’s love and compassion. Recent projects he has felt so blessed to create include The Seven Days of Creation, The Blessed Hope (which depicts the Second Coming of Christ), and he is presently working on a series of twelve paintings of The Healing Miracles of Christ for Loma Linda Hospital. Greene’s painting Living Waters, donated by the Ardmore Institute of Health, hangs above the staircase in the grand rotunda of the Larry R. Moore Nursing and Administration Building on Southwestern’s campus.
Greene’s goal is to contin ue to create beautifully vibrant and articulate artwork that tells stories and inspires an understanding of God’s love. Student art participants of the Festival of the Arts will experience a rare opportunity to learn from such an inspired and prolific artist. Greene will also be available for a meet-and-greet for members of the community following the concert at 8:30 on Saturday, March 21, at 4:00pm and for ticket holders at the A Night at the Meyerson concert at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center on Sunday, March 22, at 7:30pm.
This is the 33rd annual A Night at the Meyerson concert. This event marks the epic conclusion of Southwestern’s annual Festival of the Arts. Hundreds of high school students attend the festival from around the country, creating a celebration of arts that is a wonder to experience. Tickets are available at swau.edu/meyerson.
