Welcome to the Summer Institute for Model System Schools on Transformative Teaching and Learning. On behalf of Dr. Mary Peterson and Dr. William Smith, we are honored to welcome you to this powerful and purpose-driven professional learning experience. Meet the Team

Dr. Mary R. Peterson
An experienced educator and leader with over 25 years in education, Dr. Peterson has served in roles ranging from classroom teacher to district leader. She is a national accreditation reviewer and a key partner in SWAU’s preparation for accreditation.

Patrice R. Jenkins
A literacy and instructional systems expert, Patrice supports schools in translating data into actionable classroom practices. Her work focuses on aligning instruction with student outcomes and strengthening literacy systems.

Ellenor Paul-O’Neil
A systems-focused educational leader, Ellenor specializes in building coherent instructional frameworks and supporting implementation of the COMPASS Learning Framework across schools.

About the Institute
The Summer Institute is designed to:
• Equip educators with practical, research-informed instructional strategies
• Support data-informed teaching and continuous improvement
• Develop project-based, inquiry-based, and impact-driven learning models
• Foster collaborative learning communities among educators
• Prepare participants to implement and present instructional innovations

Participants will receive:
- Actionable lesson and unit plans
- Instructional tools aligned with the COMPASS framework
- Strategies for differentiation and student engagement
- A renewed vision for transformative teaching
- A Certificate of Completion from Southwestern Adventist University upon successful completion of the institute
- Covered travel, housing accommodations, and meals for the duration of the institute
