New AdventHealth Endowed Chair of Nursing at Southwestern Adventist University

This summer, Southwestern Adventist University received a generous gift from AdventHealth to create a $2 million Endowed Chair of Nursing. Dr. Kerrie Kimbrow, the current nursing department chair, is grateful to be first person to utilize this title.   

Dr. Kimbrow is not a stranger to AdventHealth’s generosity or commitment to going the extra mile to build young healthcare leaders. Early in her career, Dr. Kimbrow worked as a traveling nurse at Florida Hospital, an AdventHealth facility. After receiving her Master’s in Nursing Administration from Loma Linda University, Dr. Kimbrow was given assistance in her international work transition from Canada to the United States and extensive leadership experience as an assistant to AdventHealth’s Chief Nursing Officer.

Now, as part of the Nursing Department faculty at Southwestern Adventist University, she continues to see AdventHealth’s commitment to healthcare education through internships, externships and entry-level positions for the University’s graduates. Dr. Kimbrow believes that having a close relationship with a large and respected healthcare network such as AdventHealth adds immeasurable value to the University’s Nursing program. When asked about her new position, Kimbrow commented, “I am so grateful for what AdventHealth has done for me personally and I am excited to continue in my role as an ambassador for them to our students.”

AdventHealth is a healthcare network headquartered in Orlando, FL. It currently operates more than 130 health services facilities in 9 states, including hospitals, urgent-care centers, hospice agencies and nursing homes. They have a partnership with Texas Health Resources and operate Texas Health Huguley Hospital.  Southwestern Adventist University’s relationship with AdventHealth, like that of Dr. Kimbrow’s, is not new. In 2015, a similar endowment fund donation established the AdventHealth Endowed Chair of Business Administration.
