KEENE, Texas—Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) is excited to announce a new certificate program for students in the rapidly growing industry of machine learning.

Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that enables computer systems to learn patterns from data and improve their performance over time. By using algorithms, these models identify data relationships to make predictions, decisions, and generate content.

The Machine Learning Certificate Program focuses on teaching core concepts, implementing and interpreting algorithms, analyzing data, and evaluating model performance. Students learn to understand and apply data-driven methods in an increasingly digital and technology-driven world.

The goal of the program is that students complete their Machine Learning Certificate without extending time to graduation by choosing an appropriately aligned major and electives. Upon completion, students will receive their certificate when they are awarded their bachelor’s degree at graduation.

The Machine Learning Certificate program consists of three courses—a total of nine credit hours—that are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the concepts and applications of machine literacy. Participants are also required to complete a capstone project, applying acquired skills to a real-world problem. Students must demonstrate their ability to analyze data, implement appropriate models, and interpret results.

Required courses include computing as a human endeavor, data analysis, and introduction to machine learning.
