On Sunday, May 4, 2025, Southwestern Adventist University celebrated the graduation of the class of 2025 during a heartfelt commencement ceremony held at Leiske-Pultar Gymnasium. The ceremony, attended by over 1,100 family members, faculty, and friends, marked the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and personal growth for the graduating students.
The keynote address, “Before You Climb Any Higher,” was delivered by Dr. Juleun Johnson, Vice President of Mission and Ministry for AdventHealth. Drawing inspiration from the scripture, Ephesians 3:20, Dr. Johnson encouraged graduates to reflect on their journey and to consider the great heights they are capable of reaching with the right foundation of faith, dedication, and purpose. His message served as a reminder to the graduates that their hard work has prepared them for a bright future filled with endless possibilities.
The Class of 2025 also left a lasting gift to campus life: the announcement of their class gift, a series of outdoor digital display signs, was met with excitement and pride. The signs, which will be installed this summer, are designed to keep the student body informed and engaged with campus events, announcements, and activities. The cafeteria, a central location for student interaction, will house the first of these displays. “We wanted to contribute something meaningful and lasting,” shared Senior Class President Cesar Gutierrez. “The signs will help future students stay informed. It is something that’s simple, useful, and part of daily life on campus.”
In her closing remarks, President Patterson reflected on the greater meaning of the day: “Today is not just a celebration of academic success but also a celebration of faith, community, and service. We are so proud of our graduates and the incredible journey they’ve taken to get here. They are leaving this campus ready to make a positive impact in the world, and we are excited to see all the great things they will accomplish.”
The class of 2025 leaves SWAU with not just a degree but also a second home and family. As they step into the next chapter of their lives, they carry with them the values of knowledge, faith, and service instilled by their time at SWAU. The graduation ceremony marked not only the end of an academic chapter but also the beginning of a bright future for each graduate.
Congratulations to the class of 2025 for their achievements, and may God continue to guide them in their journey ahead.
