Southwestern Adventist University’s Department of Music will present a unique concert featuring five pianos being played simultaneously. Sixteen musicians will perform, including Department of Music students and faculty and additional University faculty. The concert is made possible by the sponsorship of Collora Piano of Dallas, who will provide four additional grand pianos. The concert will also feature guest clinician and conductor Richard Capp of Boulder, Colorado.

“We’re thrilled to present this concert to our community,” says Dr. Devon Howard, faculty organizer and Director of Keyboard and Theory Studies. “I’ve had the privilege to perform in several such concerts before. It’s not something you get to see every day. It is definitely a challenge, but also a lot of fun to pull together.”

The concert will take place in the Wharton Auditorium in the Mabee Center at 303 W Magnolia on Thursday, March 30, at 7:30pm. It is free and the community is very welcome to attend.

The Music Department just recently performed at the Meyerson Symphony in Dallas with the annual University Music Festival participants. The concert featured the world-premiere and North-American premiere of two of award-winning composer Ēriks Ešenvalds’ newest compositions. Mr. Ešenvalds was in attendance at the concert, as well as providing clinical expertise to the participants. The concert also featured soloist Raehann Bryce-Davis, a native Texan and alum of Chisholm Trail Academy and Southwestern Adventist University. Ms. Bryce-Davis is currently performing dynamic roles in Belgium as a part of the Opera Vlassnderen. Proceeds from the evening benefit, reaching a record of nearly $50,000, go to support the Music Department and the music scholarship finalists.  

The Department of Music ensembles, including choral, symphony orchestra, and saxophone ensemble, regularly perform on campus, around Texas and the United States, and even around the world. Such concerts, and the recital series featuring piano, instrumental, and vocal offerings, are free and open to the public.
