Southwestern Adventist University ENACTUS team has several projects in mind for this school year. One of their Legacy Projects, projects that they continue annually, is Business in a Box, an entrepreneurial project for the elementary and middle school students in the City of Keene schools. The Enactus team will work with the students to develop their product and their entrepreneurial skills. The project ends with a Market Day when the community is invited to come check and purchase their wares or services. This is the fourth year ENACTUS has worked this project. It gives the elementary and middle school students a practical application outside the classroom.
Another Legacy Project is with the Rez Refuge, a safe haven for youth in Arizona. In 2013, Enactus first helped them build their computer resources. They recruited the University of Montemorelos to work hand in hand with them on this project. Since then, the Enactus team has worked every year with the group. This year they will help them build greenhouses to start a community garden project. Rez Refuge is a non-profit organization, so they need other ways to earn some form of income such as T-shirt making and gardening. The team plans to help them come up with more designs for shirts in order to sell more. The refuge already operates a small neighborhood vegetable garden in Fort Defiance, so the team will be introducing hydroponic techniques in an effort to increase their yield.
The team plans to implement HomeGrown, a new project that provides community members with the skills to grow their own gardens.
The Enactus team is also preparing to compete in the EnactusUSA Regional and National Competitions. Last year was the fourth year in a row the Southwestern Adventist University Enactus team won their regional competition and went on to compete at the national level.
UPDATE: View the Enactus team's Annual Report for more information on these projects.
