More than 7,000 miles from Keene, Texas, a group of Southwestern Adventist University students embarked on a journey of service, faith, and transformation. After more than 30 hours of travel across multiple flights, the team arrived in the island nation of Palau with a clear mission: to serve the students and community of Palau Mission Academy.
Upon arrival, students immediately began work on a major renovation project at Palau Mission Academy, restoring a dormitory that had remained unused since the COVID-19 pandemic. What once stood as a dusty, aging building was transformed through the dedication and hard work of SWAU students.
Throughout the two-week mission trip, the SWAU volunteers renovated, painted, deep-cleaned, sanitized, and furnished the dormitory, creating a welcoming space for future students. Their efforts helped breathe new life into a facility that will once again serve young people pursuing their education in a Christ-centered environment. Beyond the dormitory renovation, the SWAU team also assisted with painting projects at local churches, participated in worship through music ministry, and built meaningful connections with members of the Palauan community. For many students, the greatest impact came not from the work itself, but from the people they encountered.
Student Association President Tyler Cabansas reflected on meeting student missionaries serving throughout Palau's Adventist schools. "To see the effort and sacrifice they gave in order to be God's hands and feet made a definite impact on my life," Cabansas shared. "Collectively, we (shared) our blessings from God by serving others and sharing the love of Christ.” His reflection captures the heart of the mission trip.
While students traveled thousands of miles to serve others, they returned home transformed by the faith, dedication, and spirit of service they witnessed among fellow believers. The experience reinforced Southwestern Adventist University's commitment to developing servant leaders who are prepared to make a difference wherever God calls them. Through acts of service, teamwork, and ministry, students experienced firsthand what it means to live out Christ's example of compassion and selflessness.
As the newly restored dormitory prepares to welcome students once again, the impact of the trip will continue long after the SWAU team has returned home. The renovated facility stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when faith, service, and dedication come together. For the students who participated, the mission trip was more than a travel experience—it was an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ and leave a lasting impact on a community far from their own.
