The BS in General Studies at Southwestern Adventist University offers a versatile pathway for students who wish to explore multiple fields of study while fulfilling all core university requirements.
Curriculum and Courses
The BS in General Studies consists of 42 credits (including 18 upper-division) within one of four broad categories: Humanities, Professional Studies, Social Sciences, or Sciences. Students must also complete all university-wide general education, GPA, and QEP requirements.
This program is ideal for three main groups of students:
- Exploratory Students: First-year students who have not yet selected a specific academic path.
- Transitioning Students: Individuals who have encountered unexpected hurdles in a traditional major and need a structured route to graduation.
- Broad-Focused Learners: Students seeking a general bachelor’s degree with interdisciplinary breadth.
On-campus students enrolled in General Studies are encouraged to transition into a traditional major, the interdisciplinary studies program, or an associate degree upon reaching sophomore status to ensure alignment with their long-term goals.
Capstone Seminar
All General Studies majors complete a culminating Capstone Seminar course, UNIV 420 (1 credit hour), or an equivalent departmental capstone. This final project ties together interdisciplinary learning and prepares students for their next steps in their careers or education.
